The Knight Foundry Corporation is a
California public benefit corporation
(educational non-profit) that is tax
exempt under IRS 501(c)(3).
The primary objectives and purposes of
the Corporation are to preserve the
Knight Foundry Historic Water-Powered
Iron Works for posterity as a preservation
skills training center for traditional
industrial metal-working crafts, as an
operating historic industry, and as a
living history educational
experience for the public.
Donations are tax deductible to the full
extent of the law.

Mission Statement
To preserve and interpret the industrial history, material culture, and skills
associated with the historic Knight Foundry Water-Powered Ironworks and to
provide the public with a dynamic, living history experience in the Gold Rush
setting of Sutter Creek.
Program Goals
1. To bring the historic Knight Foundry Water-Powered Ironworks (land,
physical structures, and artifacts) into public trust ownership.
2. To renovate the site in accordance with the Secretary of the Interior’s
preservation Standards for the treatment of historic properties.
3. To obtain DTSC (Department of Toxic Substance Control) certification of
the site and manage the site in accordance with the best accepted environmental
and operating practices.
4. To implement professional museum curatorial practices in order to preserve
and organize the site’s structures and artifacts (building, tools and equipment,
hardware and parts, patterns, castings, documents).
5. To develop and provide interpretive and educational programs at the site,
including exhibits, tours, events, presentations, and research, with web-based
applications for all programs
6. To preserve historic industrial and metal-working skills by establishing an
oral history program, workshops, internships, apprenticeships, and inter-
generational projects; and to develop the site as an operation historic industry
with resources for skills training and specialized restoration.
